Why waterproof flooring could be right for you

It doesn't matter if you live in a storm-prone area or not. Everyone needs waterproof floors because we all experience appliance floods, drops, or spills, and, quite honestly, if you have a pet, your needs will always lean more toward waterproofing. If the water dish gets toppled or a gallon of milk gets spilled, it's suddenly no cause for anxiety.

Water-resistant doesn’t mean waterproof

It's essential to understand the difference because you'll realize your need for it. One means impervious to liquid. It is constructed entirely of waterproof materials, and it's waterproof from bottom to top, meaning that it can be submerged or spilled on and will be fine. When flooring is water-resistant, it does repel, but unless it's wiped up quickly, it can break a barrier and seep to the core.

What is waterproof vinyl flooring?

This is the definition of waterproof flooring. It is a newer, more advanced version of luxury vinyl, engineered to be thicker, rigid, and more durable flooring. It also uses the WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) cores that offer the highest level of moisture protection and won't peel or ripple ever--no matter how much water there is or for how long.

Like luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), a premium and yet highly affordable product, this has a high-end style that makes it ideal for the living and bedrooms as it is for the kitchen and bath. True-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile are taken with digital photography, so there's clarity and vibrancy with knots, swirls, grains, and veining variations. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured features such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

Like LVF, the floors follow trends, whether you want whitewashed, gray, or light-colored wood or marble, granite, travertine, slate surfaces. If a tile is your preference, you can get the trending chevron, herringbone, encaustic-style, or filigree patterns. For even more realism, the product can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards or groutable squares for stone and tile echoes.

It is easy to care for with just regular sweeping and periodic mopping. Installation can also be fast and easy, especially when it's a floating floor where the pieces click together, mat, and then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue. Subfloors need to be clean, dry, and level.
